If you grew up in the 1980's as I did, the above poem should be easily recognizable. Shel Silverstein had a huge impact on my childhood. I devoured his books and memorized his poetry. He got it. He talked to us like adults. He remembered what it was like to be young. I looked to Shel to tell me the truth. If you haven't been to his web-site, check it out. You can hear audio clips of Shel reciting poems. There are also activities for the whole family. I downloaded his Poetry Kit. I'm looking forward to doing the 'personal poetry puzzle'.
